Tehran’s Iranology Foundation is showcasing a collection of teahouse paintings, giving visitors a chance to review this unique style of Persian art in different eras.10 Jan 2012
CHTN- Entitled “Ritual Paintings”, over 100 religious-themed artworks in different sizes and styles are on show. A collection of huge works by veteran Mansur Vafaii mostly ordered by the foundation is among the works on display featuring scenes of Ashura, the day Imam Hussein (AS) and his seventy-two companions were martyred on the 10th of Muharram. Among the highlights is a painting by veteran Fat’hollah Qollar-Aqasi depicting the scene of Hazrat Abbas (AS), the standard-bearer of the army of Imam Hussein (AS), attempting to bring water for his brother’s children. Hazrat Abbas (AS), brother of Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred during the Ashura event. Ahmad Khalili, Mostafa Hamidi, Hossein Hamedani and Sharareh Salehi are also among other artists whose works focusing on Ashura events are on show. |
