Gonabad

Gonabad is one of the cities of Khorasan Razavi Province which is located in the south and its capital is Gonabad town. According to the census in 1385, the population of this city is about 34,563. The natives call this city Jouymend.

This city is situated in 27-59 to 46-57 degrees east longitude and 54-34 to 3-34 degrees north latitude.

Situating in the main roads of the south of Khorasan and the connective ways of khorasan Razavi to Southern Khorasan and Sistan- Balouchestan, it has significant status. The altitude of this city from sea level is 1150 meters

Regarding the new political divisions, this city has common borer with Mahvelat, Roshtkhar, Khalilabad and Bardeskan from the north, with Khaaf from the east, with Southern Khorasan .This city has 9584 kilometers area. The distance of the center of the city from Mashhad is 270 kilometers and from Tehran is 1091 kilometers.

Mountain ranges stretch from the west to the east of this land. The city enjoys a warm climate. Gonabad is one of the ancient cities of Iran, the history of its buildings refer to the Achaemenian era. The greatest and the most ancient aqueduct of the world is located in Gonabad which has been the cause of production and life in this arid city. This aqueduct has been registered in UNESCO with the number 5207.
