Kalat

Kalat is one of the suburbs of Mashhad and it has been under consideration because of special geographical and historical situation during the history. The capital of this city is Kalat and its other city is Shahr-e Zu.

This city is located in the northeast of Iran and Khorasan Razavi which is neighboring Turkmenistan through short hills with 180 kilometers long and from south is limited to HezarMasjed Mountain and Mashhad, from east to Sarakhs and from west to Dargaz. The distance between Kalat and Mashhad is 145 kilometers.

The apparent form of Kalat looks like to a fence because it is surrounded among the mountains; it has always attracted the attention of kings and princes, as Timor who had attempted  to occupy this natural castle for seventeen times but he  remained unsuccessful.  Kalat is located in northeast of Hezar Masjed Mountains. The length of the natural fence is 36 * 12 kilometers and its altitude is about 200 meters from plain level. Kalat connects to abroad through several paths. The paths include Zharf, Gharanlu , Arghunshah and Dehche and each one had defensive fortifications.

Villages

Kalat consists of many flourishing villages among them; we can name Lain, Charm, Zharf, Ghale- nu and Khor.

Race

There are different races in this region among them Arab, Kurd, Kermanshahi, Lor, Turk, Turkman. These races have been immigrated because of controlling the frontier by Nader Shah and the others.

Climate

The weather of Kalat is cold in winter and is mild in summer.

Rivers

Kalat has many rivers which all flows from Hezar-Masjed Mountains, we can name Lain, Charmsu, Aisigh-Su, Ali Bolagh Zharf and Ghaleno Rivers.

Employment

People of Kalat mostly are engaged in animal husbandry and their products are mostly wool and animal skins, dairy products and rice.
