Neyshabour is one of the cities of Khorasan Razavi province in the east of Iran. This city is one of the cultural, tourism, industrial, historical centers of Khorasan Razavi province and Iran. According to the census in 1385, the population of this city was 205,972, which is the second populous city of the province after Mashhad. This city is located between 35:40 to 36:50 degrees latitude and 58:15 to 59:15 degrees longitude and is one of the northern cities of khorasan Razavi Province. Neyshabour is limited from north to Quchan , from east to Chenaran and Mashhad from south to Torbat-Heydarieh and Kashmar , from west to Sabzevar and from northwest to Farooj in Northern Khorasan and is located in the Silk road and Tehran- Mashhad-Afghanistan transit way. Millions of pilgrims of Imam Reza Holy Shrine pass this way and it connects to Quchan and Kashmar too. This city has 8722 sq km area, which consists of 7 towns, 4 districts and 13 villages. The highest point of this city is Binalud peak, which its altitude reaches to 3400 meters. During the reign of Qaznavian and Saljuqian, Neyshabur was one of the most important cities of Khorassan. In the year (618 AH) Neyshabur was destroyed during the Mongol attack and it was close to Mongol reign that Neyshabour was annexed to the territory of the Sarbedaran rulers. This city has played an important role attributing to the fields of Iranian art, civilization and philosophy.
